Ocracoke rental home booking tips and tricks:
Getting the best rental home value:
- Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your dates and spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Creek Road Cottage: Comfortable, bright, cheerful dog friendly home has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Ocracoke beach you love, look for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
More considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
