Vacation rental home tips:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your vacation in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking a perfect Ocracoke rental:

  • Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Escape Hatch: Pet friendly home, tucked among the trees, rooftop deck has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
