Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Get the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have offers and deals for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Finding the best vacation home in Ocracoke:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Pirate's Quay 3 South: Incredible harbor views and sunsets. Docking. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if a dispute is filed.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
