Our top Ocracoke vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • To find the best value, try changing your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Pirate's Quay 3 South: Incredible harbor views and sunsets. Docking. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If not, call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • Just prior to departing, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
