Tricks and tips to get the best rental home experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Island House: Dog friendly, 3-stop elevator, screen porch, canalfront, boat dock has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your agreement.
More tips for your visit:
- Store the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
