How to book the best Ocracoke rental experience:

When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in Fall or Spring months is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to select the perfect vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Paws and Relax: Pet Friendly, Canalfront with boat dock has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Make contact with the host immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
