Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines that include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First, have your family select dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Dunn In the Sun: Pet Friendly with large fenced yard. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pet restrictions before booking.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
