Tricks and tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • To find the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to pick the best rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Dunn In the Sun: Pet Friendly with large fenced yard. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your agreement.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before booking

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents many difficulties.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. message the property manager immediately to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
