How to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting the perfect vacation home:

  • Choose vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Sutton Place: Large yard perfect for outdoor activities. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of difficulties.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
