Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Book your Ocracoke rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to choose and book a perfectvacation home:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. June: Lighthouse view from screened porch, overlooking marsh. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of problems.
- Lock your rental home while you are away. Protect your property!
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas upon your arrival. text the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
