Rental home tips:
Money saving strategies:
- To get the largest vacation home for your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke attraction you love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
