Booking the best vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • To get the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a designated group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Livin' Outta Line: Canal front home with private dock, sunrise views. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you love, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a terrific stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
