Getting the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

When to book a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Filter your search:

  • Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Livin' Outta Line: Canal front home with private dock, sunrise views. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before booking the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you visiting for a specific event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Additional considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • On check-out day, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
