Getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and choosing the rightvacation home:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sea Oats: Lovely home located in a private setting nestled among oaks. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke attraction you simply love, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if a dispute arises.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
