Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- To get the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
Finding the best vacation home:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Sea Oats: Lovely home located in a private setting nestled among oaks. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what is suitable for your family.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
More tips for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- To make certain damages aren't linked to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to propel more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
