Our top Ocracoke rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in Ocracoke. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Planning and choosing the perfect Ocracoke rental home:
- Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. The Charter House formally known as The Charter Room. A 3 bedroom house for rent has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you crave, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
