Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to choose and book the perfectvacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. The Charter House formally known as The Charter Room. A 3 bedroom house for rent has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
More tips for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, note any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
