Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to book:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Book your rental home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides have deals for local tours and attractions.
How to choose the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Myrtlewood: Dog friendly, island views from the rooftop lookout. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
