Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking your Ocracoke vacation home:

  • Start by selecting your a vacation week and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Myrtlewood: Dog friendly, island views from the rooftop lookout. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If not, reach out to the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

More considerations for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your family vacation.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. Contact the host immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
