Tips and Tricks to get the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Booking your Ocracoke vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Olde Ocracoke Church: Light and airy featuring beautiful artist décor. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- Visiting for a single attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips to have a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
