Tricks and tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Make a plan and choose a perfectvacation home:

  • First, have your family commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Recovery Room: Pet friendly, spacious home, screened porch and deck. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you simply love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or applied to your contract.

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many concerns.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
