Ocracoke rental property booking tips:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • Book your Ocracoke vacation home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Planning, picking, and booking your Ocracoke vacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your group commit to trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Wild Peony: Incredible views from the ever popular rooftop deck! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you love, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
