Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. To get the best value, try changing your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Finding the perfect vacation home in the Ocracoke area:

  • First, have your group agree to trip dates and a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Pilot House: Relax on the screened porch, family friendly home. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If not, call the property manager before you reserve your rental. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
