Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To book the most suitable vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Redbeard's Claim: Professionally decorated, perfect relaxing island home. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .

Tips for a fantastic stay:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
