Booking the best rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Redbeard's Claim: Professionally decorated, perfect relaxing island home. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pet restrictions before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on good reviews to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
