Ocracoke vacation rental tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. To find the best value, change your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Finding the perfect rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Outside Over There: Pet friendly located on a quiet lane. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
