Strategies to get the best vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To find the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group requires. Ride About is a relaxing and comfortable island home and offers offsite docking. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of problems.
- Be respectful. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
