Ocracoke vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Ocracoke area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is one of our best tips for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select dates and maximum budget.

- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- During arrival, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a fantastic resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
