Tips for getting the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

Getting the most from your spending budget:

  • To find the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Narrow your Search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Ride About is a relaxing and comfortable island home and offers offsite docking. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you are crazy about, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Document any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Walk through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
