Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best vacation home within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, management companies supply Ocracoke area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Selecting and booking the best Ocracoke rental:

  • Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Olivella: Pet friendly, artistic, eclectic artwork, decks, porches. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • To make certain damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager right away to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
