Tricks and tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation home experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Booking your Ocracoke vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is an excellent way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing your trip dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Saltmeadow: Beautiful marsh views, open floor plan. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is right for your group.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or charges applied to your contract.
More tips for your visit:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure that damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Call the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
