Finding the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal NC. Reserve your rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Finding the best vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:

  • Choose vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Better Days: Pet friendly home with enclosed yard. Screened porch. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you long to visit, search for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or applied to your invoice.

During your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Note any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to inspire more bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
