Strategies to get the best Ocracoke rental home experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the best rental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 10 Cuttin Sage: Sweet Waterfront Cottage in Oyster Creek with boat docking. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If not, contact the host before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- On check-out day, take a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on great feedback to drive more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
