Finding the best rental home experience:
When to visit Ocracoke & When to reserve a rental home:
- June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your vacation in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.

- Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
