Tips to get the very best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

How to get the best value:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby tours and attractions.

Planning, picking, and booking the perfectvacation home:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Fielding's Cottage: Waterfront home, canal views, private dock. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Advice for your stay:

  • We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • At departure, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
