Tips and Tricks to get the very best vacation home experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing the best vacation rental in the Ocracoke area:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Havana Cabana; Pet Friendly and family friendly home has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If not, email the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is best for your trip.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
Tips to have a terrific stay:
- Add the host's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on good ratings to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
