Tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Ocracoke area. Reserve your rental in Fall or Spring months to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Batgirl's Hideout: Canalfront home in Oyster Creek has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your agreement.

Advice for a smooth stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas during arrival. Get in touch with the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent lots of issues.
  • Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
