Rental home tips and tricks:

How to get the best value:

  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Booking websites frequently offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides contain offers and deals for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Beachfront Beauty on Northern Pond has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, reach out to the property management company before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you are enamored with, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
