How to book the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Planning, selecting, and booking the rightrental:

  • Choose dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Beachfront Beauty on Northern Pond has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible online. Otherwise, call the property management company before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If there's a certain Ocracoke destination you love, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • At Check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a terrific stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
