Strategies to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
How to pick the best vacation home in the Ocracoke area:
- Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Outstanding Views of Pamlico Sound and Sunsets has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. E-mail the property manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just prior to departing, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
