Tips to get the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Reserve your vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning and picking the right Ocracoke rental:
- To start, have your family commit to vacation dates and a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Out Of The Blue: Soundfront, spectacular sunsets, private boat dock. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Tips for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. text the property manager right away to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just prior to departing, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
