Booking the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
Get the best value:
- Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning, selecting, and booking your Ocracoke rental:
- Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration you need. Blue Skies: Close to Ocracoke's beaches, panoramic views from decks. has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your vacation.
- Visiting for a specific event? Try a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. message the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to drive more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
