Tricks and tips to get the perfect Ocracoke vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- To get the best value, consider changing your family's Ocracoke trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers typically offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Planning and choosing the best Ocracoke rental home:
- Select dates and max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Mermaid Manor: Contemporary spacious home, decks and screened porches has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If your group is bringing pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental
Have a fantastic stay:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
