Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to reserve a Ocracoke rental & When to go:
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area travel guides which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the best rental home:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Round Pond offers a beautiful sound side view with your very own sandy beach. has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available online. If not, contact the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is best for your trip.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. message the property manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
