Strategies to get the best rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Reserve your Ocracoke rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitor guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and select a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Daydreamer: Reverse floorplan home offering three master bedrooms. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- At Check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many problems.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
