Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- In the Ocracoke area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby shops and restaurants.
How to select the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:
- Begin by selecting your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Anticipation: Private dock, wrap around deck, expansive sound views. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the owner's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- To make certain that no damages are linked to your family's stay, record any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
