Our top Vacation rental booking tips:
Find your best deal:
- Summer months are high season in the Ocracoke area. To get the best value, try changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking the perfectrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Anticipation: Private dock, wrap around deck, expansive sound views. has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke rental home search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your trip.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke destination you long to visit, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
Additional considerations:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a terrific vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
