Tips for getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Booking in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Filter your search:
- First, have your family select trip dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Doc's Holiday: Dog friendly, reverse floor plan, well appointed. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke destination you long to visit, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the property manager immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
