Tricks and tips for getting the best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Ocracoke. To book the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
- The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation property up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which often include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by having your group decide on the best dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Stranded On Purpose \"Bluebird Day Too\": Spacious dog friendly with a pool table has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a specific Ocracoke attraction you are crazy about, browse rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
- To make sure that no damages are attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host right away to record any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
