Our top Rental property booking tips:

When to book & When to go:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Reserve your rental home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to pick the best rental home in Ocracoke:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Stranded On Purpose \"Bluebird Day Too\": Spacious dog friendly with a pool table has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
  • If there's a particular Ocracoke destination you simply love, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Know before you go:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
