Rental property booking tips and tricks:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Summer time is high season in the Ocracoke area. Booking your vacation home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Choose your dates and spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Soundview: Dog friendly sound front home, den, private dock. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, email the host before you book your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your holiday.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. text the property manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
