Tips and Tricks for getting the best Ocracoke vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your budget:
- To find the best value, try shifting your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and choose a perfect Ocracoke vacation home:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Fried Ocra: Pet friendly, marsh and pond views, decks, screened porch has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms.

- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Store the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
