Tricks and tips to get the perfect rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. Reserve your Ocracoke vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guides have deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Choosing the best rental:
- Start by having your group decide on vacation dates and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Fried Ocra: Pet friendly, marsh and pond views, decks, screened porch has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property management company before booking the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Ocracoke beach you crave, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the property manager right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
