Getting the best Ocracoke rental experience:
Find your best deal:
- Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at the beach and popular Ocracoke attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Some hosts offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Ocracoke area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have deals for local accommodations and attractions.
Choosing the best rental home in the Ocracoke area:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. Hammock View: Canal front, private dock, close to Sound has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property management company before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your trip.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
