Tricks and tips for getting the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summer time is high season in Ocracoke. Booking your vacation home in Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Ocracoke visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your dates, and choose a budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Contentment: Spacious home, den, screened porch, marsh views. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, reach out to the host before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine what configuration is right for your trip.
  • Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your visit:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
