Finding the best Ocracoke vacation property experience:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the Ocracoke area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Summer is high season in the Ocracoke area. To find the most suitable rental home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Ocracoke area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Make a plan and choose the best Ocracoke rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. Contentment: Spacious home, den, screened porch, marsh views. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or may be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Ocracoke beach you simply love, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many concerns.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Record any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great source for finding the best local attractions.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
