How to get the best Ocracoke rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is a great way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your family commit to dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Poker House: Waterfront home on a canal in Oyster Creek. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before booking your home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property manager about your furry family members before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To make sure damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. text the rental manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
