Our top Ocracoke rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the best rental home value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in Ocracoke. To find the most suitable rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Filter your search:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Poker House: Waterfront home on a canal in Oyster Creek. has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your .
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
