Tips to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

Sticking to your rental home budget:

  • Summer is high season in Ocracoke. Book your Ocracoke rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • In the Ocracoke area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some property managers offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select your dates and max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Latitude Adjustment: Walking distance of shops and restaurants. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before reserving the home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or costs could be applied to your contract.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
  • Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a fantastic time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
