Getting the best Ocracoke rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Summer months are high season in Ocracoke. To get the best value, shift your family's Ocracoke vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guide magazines which will include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • First, have your family decide on trip dates and a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Harbor III: Views of the lighthouse and Silver Lake. has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Have a wonderful stay:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a great stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
