Strategies to get the perfect Ocracoke rental experience:

When to reserve a Ocracoke rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of NC. To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to select the perfect rental home in the Ocracoke area:

  • Select vacation week and spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. The Back House: Quaint two bedroom Ocracoke Island cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the host before you reserve the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would back home.
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
