Tips and Tricks to get the optimal rental experience:
When to reserve a Ocracoke rental home & When to go:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a discount.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a max budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration you need. Jordan's View: Incredible Lighthouse views has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before reserving the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or might be applied to your agreement.

- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your vacation.
- Upon check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
