Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summer months are the most expensive season in the Ocracoke area. To book the largest rental for your budget, we recommend reserving in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Select a group leader, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Ariosto: Dog friendly, close to dining, shopping and water activities. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you book the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is best for your trip.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you visiting for a single event? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Note any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to stimulate new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
