How to find the best Ocracoke vacation rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To find the best value, try changing your family's Ocracoke vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Ocracoke vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Ocracoke area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Ocracoke area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Filter your rental search:

  • Select your vacation week and max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Beachbreak: Spacious interior, screened porch and large deck. has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Ocracoke vacation rental search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

More considerations:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be an excellent source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
