Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation property experience:

Getting the most from your rental home budget:

  • Summer months are the most expensive season along the coast of NC. To book the best rental home within budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Ocracoke restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitor guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • First and foremost, have your family commit to date ranges and a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Purple Martin: Old fashioned, quaint. Rooftop deck view of Lighthouse. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the host before booking the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is right for your vacation.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or might be applied to your agreement.

More tips for your stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers bothering your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon check-out, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire more reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
